Recognizing Outstanding Employees in October

In October, Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) is recognizing outstanding employees who have made a significant impact on their school community. These honorees include an executive administrative assistant, a school police services dispatch/evidence manager, a school clerk, and a family liaison. APS is known for its dedicated professionals who go above and beyond to ensure the needs of students are met. The Employee Recognition Program, which has been running for six years, celebrates the hard work and commitment of these exceptional individuals. Throughout the month, these outstanding employees will be honored on electronic billboards across town and will have the opportunity to meet with Superintendent Scott Elder or his representative. They will also receive a special memento to commemorate their achievement. APS encourages everyone to nominate deserving employees who have made a difference in their school community.

October is a month filled with recognition for outstanding employees at Albuquerque Public Schools (APS). These employees have dedicated their time and talent to help meet the needs of students in the district. In the sixth year of the Employee Recognition Program, APS would like to honor a few exceptional staff members who have made a significant impact. Let’s take a closer look at the outstanding employees recognized in October.

Michele Apodaca – Executive Administrative Assistant, Student, Family, and Community Supports Division

Michele Apodaca is an invaluable asset to the Student, Family, and Community Supports Division at APS. As the executive administrative assistant, Michele is always the first person to welcome new employees to the department. Her patience and willingness to serve as a resource for anyone with questions make her an incredibly valuable team member. Michele goes above and beyond to support her peers and help them get the job done. Her colleagues describe her as someone who lights up the room with her great personality and smile. Michele takes pride in her work and cares deeply about her peers, always going the extra mile to make them feel welcome. Whether it’s creating welcome signs for new employees or offering a helping hand, Michele consistently demonstrates her professionalism and dedication.

Shashanna Gonzalez – Dispatch/Evidence Manager, APS Police

The APS Police Department relies on dedicated individuals like Shashanna Gonzalez to ensure the safety of students and employees. Shashanna serves as the district’s dispatch/evidence manager, and her colleagues are incredibly grateful for the many hats she wears. Shashanna can always be counted on to lend a helping hand whenever needed. She is known for her reliability and willingness to go above and beyond. Shashanna exemplifies true dedication to her role, ensuring that APS remains a safe environment for everyone.

Michaela Salas – Clerk, Alvarado Elementary School

When you enter the office at Alvarado Elementary School, the first friendly face you see is that of Michaela Salas. As a clerk at the school, Michaela is always ready to jump in and find solutions to any problem that arises. She is beloved by the staff and students alike. Teachers at the school praise Michaela for her integral role in the staff and her willingness to go above and beyond. Michaela’s office is often decorated with drawings from students, and she always makes time to listen and support those who need it. She brings positivity and care to her work every day, making a significant impact on the school community.

Katy Slota – Family Liaison, Jefferson Middle School

Katy Slota is the heartbeat of Jefferson Middle School. As the family liaison, she plays a crucial role in supporting and assisting families whenever they need it. Katy goes above and beyond to make herself available to families, even outside of regular work hours. Her dedication to serving the community is evident in her work with the Roadrunner Mobile Food Bank, where she ensures that families in need have access to food. Katy is a true servant leader who fosters trust, confidence, and a sense of belonging among students, staff, and families at Jefferson Middle School. She is known for her ability to develop deep and trusting relationships with families from diverse backgrounds. Katy’s tireless efforts to improve student outcomes and create a positive school climate make her an exceptional employee.

Nominate an APS Employee!

Do you know an APS employee who deserves recognition for their outstanding work? You can nominate them for the APS Employee Recognition Program. All staff members who have been employed for at least six months are eligible for nomination. However, self-nominations are not accepted. Take the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the individuals who make APS a great place for students to learn and grow.

How to Nominate an Employee

To nominate an APS employee, simply fill out the Employee Recognition online application. Remember, nominations must be completed by someone other than the nominee. The Peer Praise Task Force will select award recipients monthly.

October has been a month of celebration for outstanding employees at APS. These individuals have shown exceptional dedication and commitment to their roles, making a lasting impact on the students and staff they serve.
